Pedigree Pig Sales - National Pedigree Sale Saturday 10th October 2009 BIG CROWD FOR PEDIGREE PIGS AT
ROSS-ON-WYE The top price of the day was 580
guineas, paid for the Supreme Show Champion, the Gloucestershire Old
Spot boar Chapel Patrick 11, consigned by S.J.Booth, Lymm, Cheshire.
He was purchased by Richard Lutwyche, bidding on behalf of cheese
producer Charles Martell, maker of the famous “Stinking Bishop”
cheese, who keeps a herd of traditionally reared Old Spot pigs
alongside his Gloucester herd of cattle at Dymock, Glos. BBC cameras were at the event, filming for an upcoming series hosted by Jimmy Doherty, due for transmission next spring. Jimmy was an enthusiastic bidder at the sale, securing Berkshire, British Saddleback and Middle White gilts for his “Jimmy’s Farm” enterprise near Ipswich, Suffolk.
